Press Release
Commissioned as part of the International Artist-In-Residence program at Artpace, San Antonio, a re-examination of Stefano Arienti's Library will be shown for the first time in New York at Lehmann Maupin Gallery's 201 Chrystie Street location. Composed of nearly 300 bushels of wheat the artist encourages visitors to engage the work by sifting through the grain to unearth 100 altered books buried within. The work merges the natural and the intellectual by expressing the connection between organic sustenance and knowledge. The exhibition will be on view from 10 May through 14 June 2008. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday 10AM – 6PM.
